Fare Stages

In the "Verkehrsverbund Warnow" (VVW) different transport services are joined in one system as a consequence of the close economic interconnection of Rostock and the surrounding areas.

One ticket for the entire interconnecting transport area

One and the same ticket, provided by the VVW, is valid on all routes of this traffic system. Just in case you change from a tram to a bus, a train or a ferry, you can use your ticket there as well.

The fare stages system

The entire fare area of the VVW is divided into 18 fare stages: three city and three ferry fare stages within Rostock, twelve fare stages for the areas around Bad Doberan and Guestrow. Find out how many fare stages your bus or train route crosses and conclude from this the ticket that is valid for you. Fare stages that you cross more than one time are only counted one-off.

Fares

Corresponding the fare structure of the "VVW" there are single tickets and season tickets. Information about each ticket you get under Fares.

Where do you get the tickets?

Tickets you get in the sales offices of all connected traffic services as well as at the machines near most stations. Do not be afraid of the techniques - it is easier than you think:

  • Choose the ticket or the station code (depends on the machine) by pressing the buttons (you see on the display how much it costs),
  • Pay,
  • Take your ticket (and the change if there is any).
  • The ticket machines accepts coins from the value of 5 Cents (some machines accept banknotes and cash cards as well) and give refund. Note: 20 Cent coins are not accepted.
There are no machines inside the busses, trams and trains which means that you have to buy your ticket before you start your journey.

Cancelling the tickets

The tickets (except of season tickets) have to be cancelled at the cancelling machines right after starting the journey. The cancellation of single tickets takes place within the bus or tram or at the train platforms (stamping machines). Each ticket only has to be cancelled one time even if you change for another bus, tram or train.

Do not forget your authorization

If you use any of our reduced fares you need the corresponding authorization additional to your ticket. In case you do not have a valid ticket appropriate to our terms of transport, our controlling staff is authorized to record your personal data. For season tickets (weekly, monthly or yearly season ticket) you need an additional authorization that you get at our sales offices, too.
